The Waxed Trench Coat

We’re all inspired by something.

It was the late 1800s when the first trench coat came to fruition. It made a ubiquitous outer layer for the coming century.

We revealed the original American Trench Coat in 2010. A true project, the first of its kind, made in America. We set our sights on preserving the skill of manufacturers who learned to perfect this influential piece of outerwear.

The American Trench Coat is a weatherproof trench coat made of unparalleled, 100% waxed cotton by Halley Stevensons. The newest iteration, inspired by tradition and prompted by vintage references, emphasizes a comprehensive focus on detail – the new design’s greatest asset.

Function is built into the garment. UK-based Halley Stevensons is a pioneer in the waxed cotton industry, developing all of its fabrics under one roof. Waxed cotton is a sustainable, durable, and adaptive alternative to other weatherproof textiles without compromising performance.

The American Trench Coat is built to bridge the seasons. It’s easy to say it can be the only jacket in a wardrobe – and its honorable rugged finish assigns elegance to a practical raincoat. That ulster collar with notch lapels reaches above the neck for full coverage when it gets torrential.

Smart enough for business casual days and honest enough for tees and denim, this timeless garment was proudly produced in Boston at a modern manufacturing facility known for its sophisticated premium outerwear.

The American Trench Coat is known for being:

  • Single breasted with genuine horn buttons, draping down below the knees for a memorable A-line shape
  • Vented in the back for the elegance and flair of a long coat
  • Aided by raglan sleeves for free movement in the shoulders
  • Complete with two roomy slash pockets, adjustable cuffs, and one large interior drop pocket
  • Lined with 100% cotton plaid

Cut and sewn in Boston of imported and domestic materials. Created in 1864, Halley Stevensons waxed cotton became a sustainable, durable, and adaptive alternative to other weatherproof textiles. Garments are made to be rewaxed over time to continue performing for years to come. The interior plaid lining is woven from 100% cotton. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Vintage-inspired silhouette with enough room for a blazer underneath. Feel safe ordering your suit size or sizing down once for a trimmer fit.
