Stretch Corduroy Jeans - Shockoe Atelier x American Trench
We are excited to present stretch corduroy jeans made by our friends at Shockoe Atelier in their own factory in Richmond, VA. If you have ever tried their jeans then you know - they are on a different level. The fit, the finish, the details - they are all in alignment.
For FW16, we chose a medium weight 21 wale corduroy with a hint of stetch. The thin wale looks clean and rich and pairs well with a denim jacket or a blazer. The fabric is soft and the weight is perfect for a wide range of temps, from the 30s to the 70s (deg. F). But these jeans really shine in classic fall/spring temps from 40s to the 60s. You won't get cold nor hot; they are just right. The Shockoe standard fit is trim and contemporary feel without being oppressively slim and the stretch...it's a game changer. It just adds a little bend where you need it.
Fabric and Construction
The exterior fabric of these jeans is 98% cotton and 2% elastane. Corduroy (as we know it) traces its roots goes back to 17th century Europe, weavers created a fabric that was prized by royalty for use in sport and by the common class for its toughness and ability to clean easily. In the 19th century it became a workwear staple (toughness and cleaning again) and then in the 20th century it was a staple of professors and prep schools. The 21st-century addition of stretch turns it into a performance fabric that moves the way you do but retains an elevated and sophisticated look.
